we believe happy children
learn better.

INSIDE OUT is a charity devoted to improving the wellbeing of primary school children.

OUR VISION.

Children will be equipped to deal with the ups and downs of life and flourish in an ever-changing world.

OUR mission.

To inspire children to develop a ‘toolkit’ of life skills and strategies to look after their mental wellbeing.

We aim to rebalance the education system to one where the mental wellbeing of children is as important as their academic achievement.

OUR values.

Keep it simple. Have fun. Experiment. Be mindful. Be kind.

The best predictor of an adult’s life satisfaction is their emotional health as a child.
— Layard et al

CHILDREN ARE SUFFERING FROM LOW MENTAL HEALTH.

1 in 6 children have a probable mental health disorder.

50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 and 75% by age 24.

81% of young people said that they would like their school to teach them more about how to look after their mental health.

PROMOTION.

PREVENTION.

INTERVENTION.

Schools should be supported to adopt a comprehensive, ‘whole-school’ approach to promoting social and emotional wellbeing.

Preventing mental health problems from arising and intervening early can be significant, and may result in improved attainment, attendance, reductions in behavioural problems, as well as happier, more confident and resilient children.

5 KEYS TO HAPPINESS FRAMEWORK.

A set of evidence-based actions - Look Inside, Move Outside, Share More, Be Curious, Be Kind - inspired by the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

Designed to improve mental wellbeing, develop essential life skills, and increase engagement.

Relevant and engaging for children to learn and stress-free for teachers to teach.

Solid and flexible enough for schools to develop and embed whole-school wellbeing approaches.

Happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we’re positive, our brains are more motivated, engaged, energetic, resilient, and productive.
— Psychological Bulletin

We make it EASY for BUSY teacherS to promote positive mental wellbeing.

Our 5 Keys to Happiness framework weaves through everything.

It is the foundation for our unique, interconnected pathways which provide both:

Universal support for all children to promote mental wellbeing and prevent mental health problems.

Targeted interventions exclusively for vulnerable and underperforming children with emerging or existing mental health issues who are at risk of not reaching their full potential to prevent these problems from escalating.
