Brain video

Instructions

  1. Watch the video.

  2. Discuss how the brain has three main parts that work together:

    • Owl Brain (prefrontal cortex) helps us make decisions.

    • Guard Dog Brain (amygdala) helps keep us safe.

    • Elephant Brain (hippocampus) helps us remember stuff.

  3. Explain that the brain is like a muscle. It grows and you get smarter when you try something difficult.

  4. Explain that stress can upset the Guard Dog Brain and then it doesn’t pass information to the Owl Brain and then the Owl Brain doesn’t pass information to the Elephant Brain.

  5. After the discussion, see if the children can remember the three parts of the brain and what they do.

Teacher Notes

You can provide visual examples or let the children use their imagination.

You could also have children create a poster to display in the classroom to help them remember.
